Shared Boat Tour of the Sunken City in Kekova- from Kas Harbor. We’ll explore the quaint village of Kalekoy and photograph the sunken city of Kekova, all with the energy provided by a delicious lunch and the warm Mediterranean sun.
Spend a day on the water, relaxing in the sun, swimming in the refreshing sea and experiencing awe-inspiring ancient ruins, all from the comfort of our boat. Our experienced captain will guide us to the region’s best swimming spots, sharing interesting information along the way.
Kekova - Simena is a popular Lycian site, situated upon one of the most attractive spots of the Turkish coast. The name "Kekova" is Turkish for "plain of thyme" and describes the region encompassing the island of Kekova, the villages of Kaleköy and Üçağiz and the three ancient towns of Simena, Teimussa (Ucagiz village )and Shipyard Bay (tersane bay)
With a nice leisurely start around 09:30 from the Kas harbour, we’ll board the boat and set off on our journey through the calm waters towards Kekova.
1. INONU BAY
You be offered refreshments in the sun as we continue on our scenic 1.5 hour ride to our first stop, Inonu Bay, where you’ll have to chance to swim or use any of our on-board activities (masks, flippers, swimming noodles, etc.).
2. AQUARIUM BAY
Approaching Kekova, our second stop is the aptly named ‘Aquarium Bay’. Located in between two islands at the entrance to the Kekova region, this lagoon like bay is an idyllic spot for swimming, snorkeling. The water here is so clear you can see all the way to the the sea bed from without even entering the water. Aquarium bay is an isolated location along the Mediterranean Sea which can only be reached by boat.
3. SUNKEN CITY
From here you’ll get more and more immersed in history as we cruise over the famous sunken city, a Lycian city left underwater by earthquakes in the 2ndcentury CE. Our guide tells you about the history and points out. It is prohibited to swim or stop over the ruins so the boat will continue to move.
We’ll take lots of pictures of these submerged stone ruins glittering in the water before heading towards Kalekoy.4. KALEKOY VILLAGE (SIMENA CASTLE)
Kalekoy village, only accessible by boat or on foot, was built on top of and amongst the ruins of the ancient city of Simena. You’ll have an hour of free time here to explore the shops lining the narrow streets, walk up to the top of the castle, photograph the Lycian sarcophagi, or just enjoy some homemade ice cream by the sea.
5. SHIPYARD BAY
After lunch we’ll continue to ‘Tersane’, the site of an ancient shipbuilding yard.
Shipyard Bay where ships were built during Lycian times. There are some ruins along the beach as well as some underwater that you can snorkel over and around.
5. YAĞLICA BAY ( Alternative to Shipyard Bay )
With everyone loaded back up on the boat, we’ll head to our final destination of sea and sun, Yaglica Bay.
6. ÇAMLIK BAY
On the way back to Kas our last swimming stop will be at the Çamlık (Pine ) bay. We will continue our journey to Kas after 30 minutes of swimming here.
Enjoy your last refreshing swim of the day, or maybe try out one of our masks and flippers for some added fun. The last hours of our tour are spent relaxing on the boat with only the sound of the waves and the light breeze coming off of the sea, reminiscing about a day well spent.
We’ll be back in Kas around 18:00.
